Need for Building Management System (BMS)

Building Management System (BMS) has become an integral part of most building projects because it provides a platform where the distinct services of a building can all be managed centrally to ensure they run securely and efficiently.

BMS employs the use of an application software. Every application software has its unique use. Application software like WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter etc. for instance, allow you to share messages, pictures, videos among others. The BMS software is uniquely designed to work together with other hardware to allow you monitor and control certain services of your building.

A well-developed building management system provides a platform that allows facility managers and home owners to know in real time what is happening with their services like Lights, Air conditioning, elevators, fire system, Fuel Tanks, Water Tanks, Generators, among others. This is how:

  • Lighting

A BMS lighting system is typically characterized by an elaborate web of sensors and occupancy controls. A facility manager can automatically regulate lighting at schedules times. The lighting can be regulated such that the lights are turned on at a certain time in a day and turned on at night automatically. With the use of occupancy sensors, lights can also go off when an area is unoccupied and come back immediately the area is occupied.

  • Environmental Safety

BMS also offers indoor environmental safety and luxury through your HVAC (air conditioning) system. It is set up such that, just as it regulates the air conditioning, it can detect toxic gases like smoke. In the event of a fire, the BMS smoke detection and containment collaborates with the HVAC system to circulate smoke outside of the building. Smokeless containment areas are provided for the protection of building occupants. This is how BMS works to save lives and your property.

  • Security

BMS provides access control, surveillance and intrusion detection technologies, access card readers, biometric scans, digital video surveillance, CCTV among others. It integrates access control to doors and elevators in the building. With this system, the issue of unauthorized access becomes less of a headache. In addition, it creates an environment that discourages employee theft and criminal activity.

  • Energy

BMS reduces energy usage and eliminates waste. Since it allows you to monitor services, it becomes easy to detect when things are in disarray and put them back in order. The software could alert you for instance if a light has been left on in one of the offices or rooms, or if an air conditioner is faulty. These seemingly little alerts could save you a good deal of energy and money. Overall, the sustainability of systems and equipment is improved; they last longer and work more efficiently.

  • Flexibility

One of the convenient things about a building management system is its adaptability to change. As businesses expand their buildings and add on new equipment and technologies, BMS is able to integrate them onto the existing platform. There's absolutely no need to set it up all over again.

The Automation Ghana Group (TAGG) has installed Building Management Systems in several offices and commercial buildings in Ghana. These are fully supported and maintained by our engineers.

Our X-Pro solution is highly accessible and allows the integration of as many services as possible so long as they are BMS compatible.
So, when you think BMS, think TAGG and get in touch.
