The Automation Ghana Group (TAGG) — the umbrella brand representing its member companies Process & Plant Automation Ltd (PPA), Automation Solutions Ltd (ASL) and Electrical Switchgear Ltd (ESL) — has commissioned the Huawei LUNA2000–215 kWh Battery Energy Storage System, marking a major milestone in Ghana’s renewable energy and industrial power landscape.
This deployment is the first of its kind in Ghana, positioning TAGG at the forefront of industrial-scale clean energy adoption.

Delivering the keynote address, the General Manager explained the relevance of the LUNA2000–215 to Ghana’s commercial and industrial sector.

He noted that one unit delivers 215 kWh of usable energy, expandable to 20 units on a single network, providing over 4 MWh of combined storage capacity. Multiple networks can also be deployed to form a large industrial-scale energy storage plant.

The system features a 91.3% round-trip efficiency — returning nearly all the energy stored with minimal loss — and employs hybrid thermal management, a blend of liquid and air cooling designed for extended battery life and consistent performance in hot climates.

PPA’s Renewable Energy System Becomes a Live Case Study

Process & Plant Automation Ltd has integrated the LUNA2000–215 into its own renewable energy framework.
PPA has invested GH₵ 3.3 million in a comprehensive solar PV and Energy Storage System (ESS) system — including solar panels, inverters, switchgear, installation materials, and three units of the LUNA2000–215.

The company’s facility consumes approximately 1,180 kWh daily, while its solar array generates up to 1,440 kWh on a good day. This allows PPA to use most of the energy it produces, with enough surplus to charge about 50% of its 645 kWh storage capacity.

Even at this stage, PPA is achieving up to 90% savings on monthly utility bills. With plans to expand solar generation further, the company aims to operate a fully off-grid system, using the LUNA2000–215 to provide resilient backup during cloudy periods.

Based on current performance, PPA expects the project to break even within 3 years, supported by a 10+ year lifespan and a 5-year warranty on the energy storage system.
